Description
This seismic deployment is designed with the goal of using the receiver function method to image the fine-scale structure of the crust and uppermost mantle along a subduction zone interface. Specifically, we plan to deploy 300 3c nodal seismometers (62 from PASSCAL) in a dense line across central Oregon perpendicular to the trench. This deployment will be the densest (by a factor of 10) onshore seismic deployment across the Cascadia Subduction Zone (coast to backarc) to date achieving an average station spacing of ~500 meters. We anticipate the results of this work will demonstrate the first large-scale use of the autonomous nodal instrument as a viable instrument for the generation of high-resolution receiver functions. We will also experiment with extending the deployment time (currently battery life limited) by reoccupying some station locations.
