Objectives are to determine the subsurface reflectivity and seismic velocity structure of the Chicxulub impact from the base of the Tertiary sedimentary section at ~1 km depth, down to the Moho at ~30 km depth. We hope to determine:1)Diameter of basin excavated during impact by determining the top, base, & extent of impact melt sheet composed of andesitic melt rocks & breccias, and by imaging the disruption and termination of pre-existing deep reflectors by the impact. 2)Amount & style of basement faulting and uplift during impact, and the thickness of the crust both within and outside the region of basement deformation. This goal requires good signal penetration to basement depths. 3) The position, depth, and geometry of slumped blocks and mega-terraces on the flanks of the structure. This includes assessing the degree of radial asymmetry of the major structure and morphological elements within the crater: is it a multi-ring, central-peak, or central-ring structure?
