On May 27, a new-looking IRIS website will be unveiled. It has been redesigned and upgraded to help you soon discover content more readily, and leverages new web technologies. New IRIS Accounting Manager

IRIS' new Accounting Manager, Anthony McTier, started Tuesday, May 20, 2008. He is a graduate of Howard University with a B.A. in economics and business administration, pursuing his CPA license this year.

New Mexico Student Receives IRIS Science Award

The Second Annual IRIS Science Award at Socorro High School was given to Kristen Royal on May 7, 2008. The award consisted of a certificate signed by IRIS Board Chair Susan Beck of the University of Arizona and IRIS Consortium President David Simpson and was accompanied by a $500 check.

EarthScope MT Backbone Station Begins Operation

The EarthScope Magnetotelluric Backbone station at Blacksburg, Virginia, began operating on April 6, 2008. This station, designated MBB05, is the second of seven permanent magnetotelluric stations to be installed in the continental US as part of EarthScope.

The first fully-integrated Next-Generation Global Seismographic Network System (NGS) was installed on April 29 by Project IDA at the Piñon Flats Observatory (PFO) in Southern California.

Proposals are invited to design and implement a third-party program evaluation of the IRIS Education and Outreach Program that will inform the work of an external panel review process.

2008 IRIS Workshop

Workshop

June 4 - 6, 2008 Skamania Lodge Stevenson, WA

The 2008 IRIS Workshop will include sessions on Integrative Science, USArray, Polar Geophysics, Episodic Tremor and Slip, and Synergy between Monitoring and Research. Poster sessions and special interest group meetings throughout the workshop will provide a forum for in-depth discussion on a wide range of topics. Evening events and a field trip will incorporate modern dance, live music, viticulture and barbeque. Registration closed on April 25th.
