The 1989 seismic survey was part of a large cooperative project mounted in Greenland to carry out geophysical studies of the Earth oldest crust. The targets included possible oceanic crust under the oldest supracrustal rocks, granulite terrains and three crustal sutures.

NSF Geodetic Facility for the Advancement of Geoscience (GAGE)
and NSF Seismological Facility for the Advancement of Geoscience (SAGE).
