Abstract

This SIG will serve as a forum for discussing current and future ocean bottom seismology (OBS) capabilities in the US, including the transition of the NSF funded US OBS facility from the IRIS-managed multi-institution Ocean Bottom Seismograph Instrument Pool (OBSIP) to the single-institution Ocean Bottom Seismometer Instrument Center (OBSIC). Instruments available through OBSIP (and now OBSIC) include broadband and short period ocean bottom seismometers, hydrophones, and absolute and differential seafloor pressure gauges. The majority of US OBS data used by the IRIS community are from OBSIP and are archived at the IRIS DMC. The plans for the new OBSIC will be discussed, and community input on current and future OBS needs will be solicited.
