This is the eleventh unit in the Remote Online Sessions for Emerging Seismologists (ROSES), an online course for graduate students. ROSES is hosted by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Seismology Section. This unit on Gridding (Inversion) is provided by Suzan van der Lee, Northwestern University.

Objectives:

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • understand how discrete, linear inverse methods facilitate spatial gridding of irregularly sampled data
  • apply the concepts to crustal-thickness estimates obtained from USArray data
