This is the sixth unit in the Remote Online Sessions for Emerging Seismologists (ROSES), an online course for graduate students. ROSES is hosted by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Seismology Section. This unit on Polarization Analysis is provided by Tolulope Olugboji, University of Rochester.

Objectives:

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • review fundamental aspects of seismic wave propagation
  • apply polarization analysis to determine the orientation of a seismometer
  • align components for optimal receiver function analysis
  • conduct an SKS splitting analysis
