Presenting Results

Home » Are you an undergraduate interested in working on a seismological research project this summer? » Presenting Results

Presenting your research at a professional conference provides

  • closure to the research process
  • a context for your research amongst other ongoing research
  • an opportunity to interact with other students and researchers about your work
  • an exposure to the fullness of Earth science research as a viable career option
  • numerous networking opportunities with internship alumni and potential graduate advisors
Interns and their advisors are free to present their research at a variety of professional meetings, e.g. GSA, SSA, the IRIS Annual Workshop. However, most interns and their hosts choose to present that the Fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union. Since AGU is the most popular venue for interns and their hosts to present their research, IRIS has initiated a number of supplemental functions at this event to help interns get the most from your visit. The most prominent is the IRIS Internship alumni reception. However, IRIS interns are also integrated into the mentoring and student interaction opportunities provided at the meeting by the AGU education program.

"The culmination of my internship experience was the presentation of research results at a professional conference."
