2013 Metadata Workshop
January 14 - 18, 2013, Kuwait City, Kuwait
Managing Waveform Data and Related Metadata for Seismic Networks
The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) Data Management System (DMS) and the FDSN are organizing a workshop focused on the management of metadata and time series data from seismological networks. The workshop is being hosted by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). The goal is to enable open data sharing and exchange of ideas between networks in the focus area as well as with the broader global seismological community. More information is available at the Metadata Workshop website.
The workshop is followed immediately by a four-day Advanced Studies Institute on Seismological Research.
You must register for each workshop individually.
The objective of the workshop is to assist operators of seismic networks in the generation of metadata that describes their seismic stations. We shall provide training in a variety of areas including; modern seismometry, modern data acquisition systems, digital filtering theory, quality assurance of seismological data, and how modern seismological data are used to study diverse scientific problems as well as monitoring seismicity. The primary goal of the workshop is related to the generation of the metadata needed to describe an operators network using the Portable Data Collection Center (PDCC) application. We expect participants to come away from the workshop with all the necessary knowledge to set up and maintain their own database and to link their network to the growing global network for data access.
Participants MUST be able to bring their own laptops to the workshop. Laptops are REQUIRED to meet certain requirements.
Registration opens August 17, 2012 and closes September 28, 2012. IRIS will notify applicants if their request to attend the workshop is accepted by mid-October 2012.
