Place-based earthquakes and volcanoes workshop for middle-school teachers 35 middle and high-school Earth-science teachers spent a week with University Professors, college instructors and Earth-science professionals to learn about earthquake and volcanic processes, and how these processes define our landscapes. The live-in workshop, organized by Dr. Robert Butler, UP, alternated in-class lectures and hands-on activities with field trips led by geologists and public safety officers. This workshop for Oregonians was funded by the NSF and supported by IRIS. A similar workshop for Washington State is scheduled for summer 2009. Photograph by Kelly Leguizamon, Eugene Oregon.
