Managing Seismological Metadata: PDCC 3.0

Starts: Tuesday, December 2, 2003, 8:00 AM
Ends: Saturday, December 6, 2003, 12:00 Noon
Where: IRIS Data Management Center, Seattle, WA, USA

The generation and management of metadata for seismic stations and networks is one of the more difficult aspects of data distribution. IRIS will soon release version 3.0 of the Portable Data Collection  Center (PDCC) software that assists network operators in the generation of metadata.

The IRIS DMC is hosting a workshop for users interested in Portable Data Collection Centers. The goal is to introduce a new release of the PDCC software and to offer hands-on instruction in its use. IRIS DMC staff will present PDCC and also other topics such as the SEED format, RESP files, and various software tools. Extra time will be allowed for one-on-one guidance in the use of this software.

Very limited travel funds are available for those who can justify the need.

The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology is a consortium of over 90 research institutions with major commitments to research in seismology and related fields. IRIS operates a facilities program in observational seismology and data management sponsored by the National Science Foundation through its Division of Earth Sciences.
