Deborah
Barnes - Information Services Coordinator
What
is an Information Services Coordinator you ask? Well, here at the
DMC, it is the person responsible for Web site development and maintenance,
publications, software interface development, interaction with the
user community, and many, many other community related services
(including this newsletter). Debbie was hired in 1995 and immediately
charged with getting the IRIS Web sites out of the "blink"
stage and into the mainstream. She is also responsible for the
FDSN Web site and the AGU
Seismology Section site.
Debbie
was born in Binghamton, NY, but spent her formative years in Florida.
She attended the University of Florida and has a master's degree
in Audiology. She moved to New York in 1986 and spent years as a
contributor to the urban congestion of New York City before changing
careers and taking a job with the Borehole Research Group at the
Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory as a Database Analyst. It is at
Lamont that she began developing for the Web and where she first
became aware of the existence of IRIS. Debbie is married to Mick
Van Fossen, a former paleomagnetist turned software developer. They
are often found hanging out in the lovely Seattle weather with their
8-year-old daughter Zoë, Deb's dad, Ursa the golden retriever,
2 goldfish, and several thousand slugs.
