VASE v2.8 Released

The IRIS DMC announces the release of VASE v2.8.

Vase is a Java-based client application designed for viewing and extracting seismic waveforms from the DHI waveform repository via the BUD, POND, and primary waveform archives.

New to Vase version 2.8

Ability to edit program properties.
addition of the "home" property to define Vase's working directory

Support for accessing restricted data.

Response file downloading.

MINISEED output.

Extensive help screens.

Time spans are added to the nslc listing.
user can see what time spans are available.

Support for time tears when saving waveforms to disk.
When Vase detects a time tear it will create a new file.

Small improvements and bug fixes:

Map loads in background, quicker response.

If first map fails to load, or zoom level is not supported, Vase will try second mapping service.

More consistent mapping of stations with what is requested.

Took out station editing from map.

SAC and SAC_ASCII files had header variables fixed.
variables referring to events were made "N/A" as opposed to zero values.

added support for 32 bit compression when zooming.

Support for very long data streams.

The "About" pane can be place into its own popup window.

FetchResp v1.1 Now Available

Announcing 'FetchResp' version 1.1, now available for download from IRIS DMC. You can get to FetchResp through the DHI clients web page:

Description:

FetchResp is a program which will download response information through IRIS DMC's Data Handling Interface (DHI). It is intended to be run as a script from either the command line using a terminal window or with cron using crontab.

FetchResp reads a file which specifies the networks, stations and channels to be downloaded as well as the dates of interest. The default for FetchResp is the latest response information, but you can also download the first, last or all responses.

SAC Pathes

Bug fixes for SAC version 101.2

New releases of SAC come out about every six months, but between releases bugs are found and patches written to fix them. Because of the licensing of SAC, one cannot post corrected source routines -- all source code must come via e-mail from either IRIS or LLNL. However, it has been decided by IRIS and LLNL that posting patches of broken code on an IRIS Web site is allowed. (Already those subscribed to sac-dev have seen several suggested patches posted that potentially either fix bugs or provide enhancements. This again does not break the licensing agreement, but please do not post complete subroutines.)

IRIS had agreed with a recommendation by the SAC Advisory committee to set up a Web page with links to patches that correct critical bugs. (At this time, it has been decided that patches for enhancements will be applied only in a new release.) The first installment of the patch page was created on October 29 with three patches. There is a README file on that page that explains what the patches are for and brief instructions. In order to be able to apply the patches, you need to have a source distribution of SAC version 101.2 (created on September 4). Go to URL <http://www.iris.edu/software/sac> and follow the link. Also, the CHANGES file for which there is a link on that page has been updated to include these patches.
