New IRIS
Website in Development
‘Preview of the DMC Homepage ’
Work
on a new IRIS website began in October, 2007 with the aim of making
it easy to access information from all the IRIS programs. Plans are for
the website to go live before the IRIS Workshop in June, 2008.
A preview of the DMC homepage displays the general design and navigation
of the new website.
New Design
The new design represents a significant step for IRIS in our efforts
to better serve the seismology research and education communities and
the public. Among the major goals of this project were to provide easier
navigation, highlight several lesser-known IRIS activities and also make
people aware of the many ways in which they can access seismic data.
To achieve these goals required changes not only to the look of the website,
but also to the structure of the website itself.
As a result, some pages on the website have moved. We have made every
effort to ensure that the new site is easy to navigate and that no information
from the old site was lost. We have added significant new content.
Much of the structure, especially at the lower levels, will remain
familiar to frequent users. It is still different from the old website,
however. This means that some extra time and effort may be required
to find a web page that you frequently visit.
Feedback
When the new website launches on May 27th, please take time to familiarize
yourself with its new look and structure. We would greatly appreciate
your comments and suggestions for improvements. Each webpage has a link
at the bottom you can use to send in suggestions, complaints or kudos.
If you have any questions related to the new IRIS website,
you can direct them to Matt Toigo (toigo at iris.edu).
