Okmok erupted this weekend on Umnak Island in the Aleutians. Being at the Alaska Volcano Observatory, I get to hear all about what's currently going on. We just had our weekly meeting. There was absolutely no real indication that this explosive eruption was about to occur. A slight increase in vt (volcanic tremor) began only a few hours prior to the beginning of the event.
