Week 2
Pat flew in a week ago yesterday. After dealing with complexities of campus housing we were able to get Pat situated in the apartment. We spent most of our time this last week working on the new weight drop. It is nearly operational. After several days of work on the hydraulics we were able to raise and drop the 500 lbs. hammer. With a small amount of further work we should be able to finish up the wiring on the trailer that the apparatus rests upon, and work out the remaining bugs. In addition to our work on the weight drop, Pat and I also tested several hundred geophones.
On Friday night we ate dinner at the Ram, a local restaurant and brewery. Saturday morning we rode around town on our bikes and took some pictures before going to a local theater to watch The Happening that evening. On Sunday I went on a bike ride out to the local beach and then relaxed in the evening.

I hope the Happening didn't
I hope the Happening didn't scar either of you too badly. I heard it was awful, but have yet to see a review call it "The Crappening". I'll keep looking. Geophone and source tests are key activities prior to starting fieldwork and it's good to hear you both got the full experience. When does the fieldwork start, what is the scale of the experience, and the target depth? When you know more about the plans, let us know!
