June 9th - 12th

Day 1 (June 9th)

I flew into Boise, ID from Colorado Spring, CO this morning. Dr. Liberty met me at the airport and drove me back to campus where he showed me his office and introduced me other faculty members before going out to lunch. We ate lunch at a small bistro type restaurant in the heart of downtown. After lunch Dr. Liberty gave me a quick tour of the downtown district and campus. We then spent the remainder of the afternoon running around trying to get a campus ID. Although we were unable to get the ID, I was finally able to get into the apartment and drop off my bags before heading out to Dr. Liberty’s house for dinner. It was a very pleasant evening, with good food and good company.

Day 2 (June 10th)

I woke up this morning with the realization that I was going to have to procure a blanket, the apartment was a little on the chilly side for only the sheets provided by campus housing. I headed over to the office around 8:45 while attempting to eat granola out of my Nalgene. I began working the a couple of data sets from Puget Sound in which we are going to attempt to determine effects and possibly remove out of phase arrivals resulting from side scattering on the narrow walls of the channels. Today, I went thought the data sets and tried to pick out the data from the seismic reflection lines that we are interested in. Dr. Liberty was kind enough to bring me some cooking equipment, plates, bowls, cups, flatware, and a few blankets.

Day 3 (June 11th)

Today I was able to begin looking at some of the different seismic lines from Puget Sound in Promax. Hopefully by the end of the week we will be able to have plots of the all the seismic lines put together so that we will have a better idea of what we have to work with. This evening went for a pleasant run along the Boise River. Dylan was kind enough to lend me a spare bike, which should make it much easier to explore Boise.

Day 4 (June 12th)

This morning we went over to the equipment warehouse and went through some of the equipment that we are going to be taking up to Seattle while we waited for a FedEx delivery. We were able to set up the radio triggers for the seismograph. This afternoon we looked at more seismic lines in Promax before switching over to Seismic Unix. We are in the process of writing a script which should allow us to plot the seismic traces at approximately a 1:1 scale. This evening I went on a reasonably long bike ride and explored more of the greenbelt which runs the length of town along the Boise River.

Thanks for the day by day

Thanks for the day by day recap. Keep this up as you can, maybe just weekly, but it's nice to get detailed specifics of the daily internship experience.
