Howdy interns. I've had this entry on my mind since the orientation, but since then I've been on a whirlwind run from Socorro to Tucson to Seattle and the IRIS workshop and it's been tough to get some quiet time with the intertubes to pound out this post.

First, hopefully everyone enjoyed Socorro and drew something from the orientation. You all comprised one of the sharpest groups of undergraduates I have ever had the enjoyment of interacting with, and Michael and I are looking forward to charting your progress throughout the summer. Secondly, please take the time in the next week to make an entry on your summer goals, if you already haven't. If you've already started your internship and met with your advisor then this is a more clear and direct. Even if you haven't, just think about what you're hoping to accomplish in terms of building on your undergraduate experiences and considering any thought you've had about a future career track.  Finally, if you are finishing up exams or starting your internship, let us know how things are going! The foremost strength of this forum is to honestly reflect upon and share your summer experiences, so Michael, myself, and your peers can offer advice, insight, and encouragement whenever possible!
