Reflection

I have a little less than two weeks left, and I'm currently just editing figures and trying to write. I never wrote down my goals at the beginning of the summer, but I'm sure they've all been left. When I came to Fairbanks, I was hoping for a result from my project that I could use for my senior comps in geology. That was successful. I am outlining my paper at the moment. I haven't written my abstract yet, but am planning on doing that today and tomorrow.

Depth Perception

After I worked on the focal mechanisms, I messed around with the parameter of hypoDD to see if the relocated hypocenters were valid. Only large changes to the quantity max # of neighbors showed any results, and it just shallowed the events out again, meaning the relocations were stable. After I did all this, the question was, what to do next?

What's up

I've spent the last week working on focal mechanisms. I went through all of my events and picked their first motions. Then using fm_tool, i plotted each event on a stereaonet and created a focal mechanism. After that, I went through all the first motions again, to check on the stations that did not fit with the suggested fm. Then I went through all of my notes and picked the events that had the clearest focal mechanisms, so that I was only using the best data. I only had a couple that were really good, but overall, there were about 150 that were semi decent.

All of my earthquake locations

This is my GMT creation for today. It depicts all of the events I've spent the last 2.5 weeks locating. Because It's such a small area, there are no degree scales.it's between 19 and 20 lat, and -102 and -104 long.
