Setting Up Your Active Earth Display
Setting up your account. Part 2.

Editing Pages
You can add up to 25 pages to your loop. You can add IRIS developed pages or you can add your own web pages. If you add your own pages or link to an already existing page on the web, please scrutinize the page to make sure it does not cannot any links. A user would be able to click the link and exit the Active Earth Display interface to surf the web.
The following numbered list refers to the numbered screenshot of the configuration screen above.
- If you need help with any of the columns in the page editing section of the configuration screen, click on the blue column headers.
- Link Number Column. Here you can change the order of the links. It is best not to combine reordering the links with other changes in the same SAVE operation. Change their oder, press SAVE, then continue with any other edits and press SAVE again.
- Link Type Column. Select IRIS to see a menu of available IRIS-supplied pages. Select OTHER to type in your own URL. Select NONE to delete a link.
- Link Name Column. For IRIS pages, this field will be a popup menu of available pages. For OTHER pages, supply a short name for your link. Avoid special characters like quotes and apostrophes.
- URL Column. For IRIS pages, the web address is filled in for you. For OTHER pages, supply the URL.
- Test Column. The "T" buttons are test buttons. You can preview a link by pressing this button.
- Setup Column. The "S" buttons denote pages that you can customize. When you click on the button, another page comes up in its own window that guides you in how to customize the pages.
- URL Parameters Column. Links that have an "&" in them, such as "http://link.com&user=joe", will store the part of the URL beginning with the "&" and up to the end of the link in this field. (These are known as GET parameters.)
- Timeout Seconds Column. Choose how long you want the page to stay on the screen before the next page appears. For interactive displays, this is how long to wait after the last button press and for non-interactive displays, this is how long to spend on a given link.
- Timeout Action Column. Choose what happens when a page times out. The display can go home, do nothing, go to the next link, or reload the current page. The last page's "next link" is the first page, thereby making a circle of pages.
- Enabled Checkbox. You can disable a link if it is not working, being modified, or for any other reason, without having to delete it from your list of links.
- Insert Checkbox.
To insert a link, check this box and specify the link number you wish to insert a link above. Do not combine an insert with other operations like reordering or removing links as the results may be unexpected.
Insert a link, then SAVE, and your new link will appear, ready to be edited and SAVED.
- Authentication Fields.
Enter the username and password you selected when you applied for the display.
This information is kept in a cookie on your local PC or Mac, so that you won't have to enter it in each time you perform a configuration, however the cookie expires after a few hours.
Note that pressing ENTER on your keyboard will not activate the SAVE button, it must be pressed.
If you forget your password you can use the "Forgotten password..." link to reset it. It will email you a temporary password and you will have to login to IRIS and change it. Note: it may tell you it failed to email you a password, but it most likely HAS emailed it to you.
- Save Button.
When you press it, the fields are validated and if no errors are found the configuration is saved. If your username and password are correct the database is updated and then the config screen (this same screen) is refreshed with the saved data. If you are finished editing press RESTART to see the effects of your changes.
If there were an error saving or some validation issues you would see those messages instead of the above and you would correct the error and press SAVE again.
If the SAVE operation has an error, it is possible you could see messages you don't understand instead of the above messages, and the links at the bottom of the screen might be not there. Don't panic. In that case press the CONFIG button to refresh the entire session and get back to the last saved state.
Similarly, if you wish to abandon all your edits on the screen and revert to the last saved state press the CONFIG button.
Pressing SAVE first performs the authentication:

Now your changes are made.
