Goals for my internship
June 4th, 2010
Goals:
-
Become familiar with everything that goes along with setting up a passive seismic array.
-
Become proficient in Matlab and Splitlab. This skill will really benefit me when I return to Rice because I will be able to take on more important, in-depth research projects with my professor.
-
Become an "expert" in anisotropy. Obviously I won't be an expert but since this is the main focus of my project, I am sure I will learn a lot about it. I'm also motivated to reach this goal because the professor that I'm working with at Rice does work related to anisotropy of the core, which I want to understand better.
-
Improve my geologic knowledge of metamorphic core complexes.
-
Learn a lot about the realities of grad school, look into possible programs/advisors, and try to identify possible areas of interest. This one is BIG for me because my lack of excitement about any single topic worries me and makes it difficult to select a specific area of study.
-
Study for GRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh they are coming up fast and so I really need to make sure I make time for this.
I think this summer is going to be a great opportunity. And it starts tomorrow!
