I hope everyone's projects are developing nicely! Please find your assignments for the second week of your placement below.
1) In your weekly blog post, describe the following...
a) What is the dataset that you will be working with this summer-. What are the instruments and time-span? Is it widely used by researchers at various universities or will you be one of the first people to look at it? Are you starting off your project with raw data that you will have to do the initial processing and event-picking from or are you starting a little further down the line? Etc.
b) What are the tools you will use to do your summer research? Matlab, GMT, Antelope, in-house packages written in your research group, etc?
2) Complete the UNIX Tutorial #7. You can access this assignment at http://moodle.glg.muohio.edu/glgmoodle/course/view.php?id=17 I provided the log-in details and instructions on accessing the educational Linux box in an email with the subject "Pre-Orientation Homework" and it was sent on 5/20/14. If their are questions about this, let me know.
3) If you haven’t already, become an undergraduate student member of the American Geophysical Union. This membership is also required in order to submit an AGU abstract later in the summer. Thus, best to do this now. Dues are $20/year (though IRIS will reimburse you for the cost of this year's membership) and you will get a subscription to AGUs publication EOS.
