McMurdo, the main NSF support base for all Antarctic research is located on the flank of the volcano which is an island off the coast of Antarctica! You can't tell because its surrounded by ice. The pictures are of the deployments of 100 temporary(1-2 months) seismic stations for a active/passive source tomographic imaging of the conduit system of the volcano
