Job Opening

Seismology Research Position Opportunity at Air Force Research Laboratory

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)

Posted: 12/20/2017

Open Until: 01/31/2018

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) anticipates a Seismology Research Position opening in its Nuclear Explosion Monitoring research program in the next few months (US citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance are required; position would be located at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico).

Please show this announcement to any of your colleagues who might be interested. This position is open to all levels: job level would be commensurate with experience.

AFRL is interested in an active researcher with broad interests, especially with a practical outlook and experience with numerical modeling in such fields as source physics, wave propagation and/or seismic tomography, particularly full-waveform. The job would entail significant time (40%?) on working on research directly usable at monitoring agencies such as AFTAC, significant time (40%?) working on creative research in monitoring seismology or related fields, and some time (20%?) on providing technical reviews of ongoing or potential research in the field.

If you are interested in such a position, please contact Rick Schult (frederick.schult<at>us.af.mil) with a resume and/or CV by 31 Jan 2018 (also cc: Ray Willemann (raymond.willemann<at>us.af.mil) and Eli Baker (glenn.baker.3<at>us.af.mil)). You can also ask Ray or Eli at AGU in New Orleans if you have any questions. Ray (raywillemann<at>gmail.com) can set up AGU appointments for discussions. If you prefer, you can transmit your resume/CV info through the AMRDEC SAFE drop box system (https://safe.amrdec.army.mil/safe/ ;, also send an email separate from the AMRDEC process).

Examples of the seismological issues of interest to AFRL can be found in the research directions described in previous Request for Information announcements (e.g., Section 3c at https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&id=92339a101969f8d0441dd4ac1c7e25b1&tab=core&_cview=1).

Thank you,
Rick Schult, Ray Willemann, and Eli Baker
