Seismology Outreach/Education Specialist

The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) has an
immediate opening for an individual with broad education and outreach
interests to join its national Education and Outreach Program. This
Washington, DC based position involves a range of responsibilities
including: developing undergraduate-level seismology and general
geoscience content, developing museum displays, developing and
improving print and Web-based educational resources, and providing
outreach at national conferences and to the general public.
The
ideal candidate will have a combination of training and/or experience
in: formal or informal geoscience education, science writing, and
geophysics including seismology. A graduate degree in geophysics,
science communication, or related degree and excellent verbal, written,
and interpersonal skills are required, and community college or
university teaching experience is preferred. The candidate must be able
to work effectively and collegially with undergraduate faculty,
teachers, museum staff, members of the IRIS Consortium, and other
educational partners. The position reports to the Education and
Outreach Program Manager.
