Overview: IRIS, a non-profit consortium of 110 US universities with national and international research programs in seismology, seeks a staff member to develop activities and secure funding to support sustainable technical infrastructure and develop human capacity in low- and middle-income countries for seismological and related research, education and training, hazard mitigation, and resource exploration.
Responsibilities:
- Work in collaboration with consortium members, program managers, and partners to identify new activities and funding to leverage existing IRIS resources.
- Collaborate with consortium members, program managers, and partners to facilitate establishment of sustainable permanent or semi-permanent seismic networks.
- Develop and/or leverage existing programs to build human capacity through education and training.
- Identify and help secure funding to support activities.
- Provide staff support or IRIS Standing Committee for International Development Seismology.
- Promote collaborative partnerships and relationships with government agencies, development banks, academic institutions, industry, and private foundations.
- Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative analysis, research, and program evaluation/assessment.
- Collaborate with IRIS management and consortium members in writing and editing eports and proposals.
- Communicate with consortium members, program managers, partners, and funding agencies.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree, or a Bachelor's degree plus four to six years relevant experience. Education and experience in public policy or international affairs with demonstrated professional interest in science and technology issues or in geophysics with a demonstrated professional interest in disaster mitigation and other broader impacts. May substitute two years of relevant work experience for each year of the master's level of education.
- Familiarity with US government agencies, intergovernmental organizations, and private foundations that fund activities related to geophysical disaster mitigation and recovery in low- and middle-income countries.
