Lecturer or Senior Lecturer Position (Ecologist)

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore is ranked 41st in the world and also placed 2nd globally among young elite universities. NTU's new Asian School of the Environment invites applications for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position in Ecology. The School is backed by two Research Centre of Excellence in Singapore - the Earth Observatory of Singapore and Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering.
The Asian School of the Environment is a new interdisciplinary School that focuses on Asian environmental challenges. The school integrates Earth systems, environmental life sciences, ecology, engineering, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability.
 
The lecturer will develop and teach introductory and advanced courses including laboratory and/or discussion sessions for the undergraduate Major in Environmental Earth Systems Science, and Minor in Environmental Sustainability. They also may participate in undergraduate advising, mentoring undergraduate research projects, promoting the undergradaute programme at the pre-University level, building contacts for student internships, and developing and teaching undergraduate field courses.
 
The position will be appointed for a 3 year term, with the possibility to renew based on performance (or promoted to senior lecturer for lecturer position). The lecturer will work closely with the Chair of the School, the Undergraduate Programme Director, the Field and Laboratory Coordinator, and other members of the faculty.
 
Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Masters with teaching experience in ecology or a related field
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English
  • Strong interest in and aptitude for teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate level
  • Ability to work well with a team in a dynamic working environment
  • Strong organizational and project management skills

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching about the Earth and ecology from a systems perspective
