Assistant Controller 

IRIS is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join their team in Washington D.C.

About Us:

The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the operation of science facilities for the acquisition, management and distribution of seismological data.  Funding for IRIS primarily comes from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Job Summary- The Assistant Controller utilizes hands-on accounting experience and an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and company practices to perform a range of accounting activities and financial analyses.  This is a nonsupervisory position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Analyzes operational processes to make improvements in procedures
Prepares and review journal entries
Performs variance analysis and account reconciliations
Documents and monitors internal controls
Assists with audits and reviews
Assists in development of the indirect rate proposal and organizational cost policies
Coordinates more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting team or other departments
Provides backup accounting support as needed, and performs other duties, as assigned

Position Requirements

Relevant Bachelor's degree and 7+ years related experience
Knowledge of accounting principles and federal award regulations
Experience with accounting operations
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and perform complex analyses
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
Use of Deltek GCS Premier (accounting software)
Intermediate to advanced spreadsheet skills

Salary range: $80,000 - $100,000+ (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
