About IRIS DMC LISS...

The LISS concept was developed by the USGS, who also provide a LISS client, LISS serves, and other LISS data utilities. The IRIS DMC's LISS differ from those provided by the USGS in several ways:

  • All data for a network is multiplexed into one feed.
  • The data stream does not come directly from the stations.

These differences have these significant effects:

  • There is latency in the data due to a larger logical record size.
  • Latency is introduced in our data acquisition methods.
  • A single feed includes multiple stations.
  • Only one connection needs to be maintained per network.
  • If a connection is lost, data for an entire network is lost.

Connect to the IRIS DMC's LISS using the USGS provided program seedport. Example usage:

seedport -b 512 -p 1400 rtserve.iris.washington.edu>AZ
