Web traffic naturally increases during the working week and dips during the weekend resulting in an weekly hump pattern. The dip in March 2009 was due to a power outage at the DMC. In April 2009, the M6.3 earthquake in Central Italy caused a spike in daily web traffic. At the end of September 2009, there was a M8.0 quake in the Samoa Islands plus a M7.6 quake in Sumatra. The M7.6 quake in Vanuatu resulted in a peak in web visits on Oct 7, 2009. |

The spike in May 2008 followed the M7.9 Sichuan China earthquake. On 6 April 2009, the M6.3 earthquake in Central Italy caused a steep increase in web traffic and record number of software downloads at the DMC. M8.0 Samoa Islands and M7.6 Sumatra quakes caused a spike in web visits at the end of September, 2009. A unique visitor is a statistic describing a unit of traffic to a Web site, counting each visitor only once in the time frame of the report (Wikipedia). |
