Web Visits

Daily Web visits to IRIS have doubled in 2005

Web Visits in 2005

The major activity peaks, in December and March, are a result of the Sumatra Earthquakes and Indian Ocean Tsunami. The peak in June followed earthquakes in Chile and California. The double peak in October is a result of the M7.6 Pakistan earthquake and aftershocks. The cyclical trend shows that there the is more activity Monday through Friday and less activity on the weekend.

Unique Visitors per month

The total number of unique visitors per month has increased dramatically in 2005. Normally, we would expect a small dip in Web traffic during the summer months (June - August). The major peak in January 2005 was due to the worldwide interest in the Sumatra Earthquakes and Indian Ocean Tsunami. The peak in June was a result of several earthquakes in Chile and California. The steep trend in October followed the Pakistan Earthquake of October 8, 2005.

The IRIS Website (blue) and USGS Website (red) show peaks in Web rank during October due to earthquakes in Pakistan. The University of Washington Website (green), used as a baseline for the USGS site, shows a different level of activity.
