stationSeismic Station on the Navajo Nation

The seismic monitoring station shown here was deployed on the Navajo Nation in northwest New Mexico in 1999 and 2000 as part of the LA RISTRA (Colorado PLAteau/Río Grande RIft Seismic TRAnsect) experiment, which has yielded a wealth of new data on the structure and evolution of the mantle and crust beneath the American Southwest. Researchers and students from three regional universities, a national laboratory, and the college of the Navajo Nation participated in this project, which is representative of NSF-funded experiments supported by the IRIS PASSCAL Program and its Instrument Center. For more information on LA RISTRA visit http://www.ees.nmt.edu/Geop/Ristra/ristra.html .
