WEED User Options

WEED - Windows Extracted from Event Data - is an X-windows program which presents the user with a GUI interface for selecting events and stations and then computes travel times from events to stations. The resulting files can be used to create data requests or for extracting data from existing SEED volumes. The following is a list of options available to WEED users.

NOTICE: WEED volumes created from FARM/SPYDER® holdings will be removed from the /pub/weed/userdata directory after 2 days. Users should download their data within 2 days of making a request or contact the DMS for special instructions.

WEED requires 3 input files to generate a summary file, to make a request, or to extract data from a SEED volume. Two of these files are generated outside of the WEED application - the station file and the event file. The WEED download comes with event files (by year) and several station files (broken down by network) but, to stay current, users are required to update those files as needed. Here are the file update options:

Because WEED is an application that is downloaded to a user's machine and not directly tied in to the DMC archive, it can be used independently on any database as long as the required files are in the appropriate format.
