How to request data in SAC format

Q:
I was wondering how I can request data in SAC format? In the BREQ_FAST request description there is no option for SAC.

A:  You are correct in that BREQ_FAST does not allow the user to get data in SAC format.  There are ways to get SAC formatted data, as detailed below:

Using rdseed on SEED data
If you are requesting SEED formatted data via a BREQ_FAST request, you first download your SEED file from the FTP site and then use rdseed to convert the SEED data to SAC format.  SAC and SAC ASCII are both output options of rdseed.  The manual will provide details on how to do this.

Using JWEED
You can select seismograms and save them in to your local computer in SAC format using JWEED. Watch the JWEED tutorial.

Using VASE
Seismograms can be selected and saved to your local computer in SAC format using VASE. Go to the VASE manual for step-by-step instructions.

Using IRIS Web Services
The ws/timeseries web service makes it easy to download SAC formatted data directly to your desktop.  For more information, please consult the Timeseries web service page.

Using WILBER (for large events)
WILBER can provide the user SAC formatted data for large earthquakes.  This is achieved through filling out the request form after selecting stations for a given earthquake.
